Honor Choirs
The Honor Choirs perform advanced middle school choral music with the idea of competing at music festivals in the spring. The students of the Honor Choirs are high achievers and there are high expectations for each member. We would like for your child to be a part of this organization.
Any student who is in the Riverdale Choir program may audition for the Riverdale Honor Choirs. The Mixed Honor Choir meets before school every Tuesday and the Women's Honor Choir meets before school every Thursday. This choir is an auditioned choir. Students who wish to tryout for this choir will receive music and can download practice tracks for their audition. Music will also be available to print. The practice tracks will include their voice part being played and the piano accompaniment, if needed. The director will be listening for: pitch accuracy, the ability to stay in key, and the timbre of the child’s voice. She will make a determination as to the suitability of the student for Honors Choir. She will make a judgement as to what part the student should sing. Attendance: Attendance is mandatory for this choir. In order for them to be successful, it is imperative that each member be present for every rehearsal. Members of this choir will be allowed to miss two rehearsals each semester. Upon a students third absence, they will be removed from Honors Choir. This choir sings at several performances each semester, both at school and off-campus evening concerts. Your child, if accepted, will be expected to attend all concerts and performances. Grades/Behavior: Students will maintain grades of “C” or better, and lower grades will result in students being placed on probation until the next grade report, interim, or nine weeks. Students and parents must understand that if grades are not satisfactory after that, the student will be dropped from Honors Choir. Students must present a copy of their report card to Mrs. Caudle after each grading period. Students and parents must understand that if a copy is not on file, my child will be placed on probation until the next grading period. Students must maintain conduct grades of “S” or better. Students and parents understand that conduct grades lower than “S”, ISS, or OSS are reasons for immediate dismissal from Honors Choir. Conduct grades are E, S, N, and U. Costs: The tuition fee for Honors Choir is $100.00 per year. This fee is due in full by October 6. Your child is not a member of Honors Choir until the fee is paid in full. This fee is nonrefundable. It is used to purchase a t-shirt, music, and to pay local festival fees. A competent pianist to accompany rehearsals and performances is also hired from the tuition. For uniforms, we have implemented a uniform fee of $60.00. This fee is in effort to reduce out-of-pocket expenses.Uniforms should return commercially cleaned and laundered. Uniforms will not be ordered until paid for. This fee is due in full by October 6. Spring festival trip costs are estimated to be about $1475.00 per student. This will include: festival fees, lodging, transportation, and admission to the theme park, all meals, and most other activities. Sometimes we visit sites such as the Arch in St. Louis or Coke World in Atlanta and costs for this are included in the trip fee. The only other money your child will need is what you trust them with for spending money. We make every effort to control trip costs. This fee will be discussed more in the Spring when the trip gets closer. We will be participating in fundraisers to help lower trip costs. Important Info:Trip Payments:
